42″ Double Offset Butterfly Valve CL. 150 WCB / AB2
About Equinor – Mongstad Refinery
The first part of the Mongstad Refinery in Nordhordland was opened for operations in 1975. After the facility expansion in 1989, the process capacity increased from 6.5 to 8 million tonnes of crude oil per year. The 1990s saw the arrival of pipelines from the Troll B and Troll C platforms and from the Kollsnes and Sture land facilities to Mongstad.
Equinor’s involvement in Mongstad now includes an oil refinery, an NGL processing plant (Vestprosess), a crude oil terminal, a cogeneration plant and the world’s largest technology centre for CO2 capture from flue gas.
Scope of Supply
The Mongstad Project was a turnaround project. We supplied 1 off 42” double offset rubber lined “cargo” butterfly valve to replace the existing heavily corroded valve. Materials were Carbon Steel (WCB) / Aluminium Bronze (Al. Bronze).
With particularly precise project requirements, we worked closely with the client to deliver the butterfly valve required for the project. The in-line butterfly valve had an unusual face to face dimension that we custom made at our factory. As a result, Equinor could drop the new valve into place, replacing the existing butterfly valve with minimal site work and less downtime.
The end user took some time to review our option for this turnaround, therefore when ordered, delivery on this valve was deemed ‘critical’. Despite the challenge, we were able to bring in the quoted delivery by 4 weeks.
We provided excellent delivery service which ensured they did not miss the shutdown timeline for installation. This secured an overall, highly successful project outcome and no additional downtime for the refinery. Equinor have advised the new Frenstar butterfly valve is in line with outstanding performance.
